Despite worrying Covid stats, some help is at hand
Friday 20th AugustThis week it’s good to have a raft of new funding opportunities to tell you about. Clearly everybody has hit the ground running after the summer! It is particularly heartening to see new, positive developments when there remains so much uncertainty around Covid-19, how long we will remain in tier 2 and what the impact will be on our sector.
Other good news is that chancellor Rishi Sunak today announced a new grant scheme for firms facing tier 2 controls and the reduced employer contributions businesses must make to receive wage subsidies for their workers on the job support scheme (JSS). From November, employers will only have to pay 5% of a worker’s usual wage which is a reduction from the proposed 33%. The number of hours an employee must work before a business can receive support also reduces, from 33% to 20% and staff working only one day a week will now be eligible. These changes will last at least six months but will be reviewed in three, so it is important for our sector to keep making our voices heard about how the restrictions are affecting us.
